If you are involved in storage or want to become a storage master, then you will want to get in on this phenomenal opportunity to become storage trained and certified. CompTIA® s new industry standard certification, Storage+, certifies your storage practitioner expertise and sets you apart from the crowd. This Storage+ course has been certified by CompTIA® as CompTIA® Authorized Quality Curriculum (CAQC) and maps to the Storage+ Exam (Code SG0-001).

CompTIA® Storage+ Part 3 explores IP storage, performance and troubleshooting. In Part 3 we turn our attention to the use of traditional Internet protocol suite-based networks for storage access. These include the use of Fibre Channel and IP combinations as well as Ethernet physical transport with data center uses in combination with FC. You will begin with an overview of IP use in DAS, NAS and SAN attachment strategies for both external and internal SANs. Functionality of the IPS protocols including IPFC, iFCP, mFCP, FCIP and FCoE is covered in detail, as are the use of iSCSI and various options for software, firmware and hardware offload solutions. You will also examine current and future uses of storage network technologies in the data center with data center bridging capability (DCB) various ways to achieve High Performance Computing including PCIE and InfiniBand.

Topics include:

Performance issues and problems
How tuning can improve performance using both TCP based and FC based flow control buffering mechanisms
Terminology and function in the Internet Protocols and the data structures of message, segment, datagram, fragment and frame and how they affect performance
Performance monitors available for assessing and base lining performance metrics
Problem solving with storage networking analyzers
Troubleshooting
Storage network installation problems and resolution
Physical issues relating to copper and fiber media and signaling and distance
How to solve all storage network problems
How to understand useful IP based commands as well as analyzer tools (PING, NetStat, TraceT and Wireshark)
Environmental consideration for storage in the data center
With the purchase of this course, you receive a bonus course on Networking Concepts! This course will round out your knowledge on basic networking fundamentals. You’ll find the link in the Related Links section of the Downloads Tab.

Objectives

As a result of taking this course, you will be able to:
Identify the components that make up uses of Internet protocol suit protocols in storage networks
Configure and use IP over FC (IPFC)
Understand uses of iFCP and FFCIP gateways to provide merged and unmerged distance extension capability over IP networks
Describe the pros and cons of iSCSI based SANs vs. FC based SANs and when it is appropriate to use either removing the hype associated with each solution and examining the facts and the truth
Understand the issues associated with the next generation data center and how storage works in a virtualization environment
Develop strategies for 10G, 40G, and 100G Ethernet environments including FCoE as well as the emerging 16G FC solutions
Describe Data Center Bridging functions including Priority Flow Control, Enhanced Transmission Service and Shortest Path Routing function for Ethernet
Examine InfiniBand role is High Performance Computing solutions in the data center
Understand issues that affect performance for I/O operations including IOPS and Bandwidth
Develop performance strategies for DAS, NAS and SAN
Identify issues related to Pathing across a Fibre Channel fabric including Load Balancing, Load Sharing and Trunking strategies
Understand hoe Class of Service and Flow Control buffering works and how tuning can improve performance across longer distance and higher bit rates
Understand Arbitrated Loop performance factors for storage control internal performance for I/O to disk drives
Identify the benefits of various offload solutions and when to use which options including software, firmware and hardware solutions. These include both TCP/IP and iSCSI offload as well as various NAS protocols
Examine various system performance tools for storage networks including Virtual Wisdom, IOMeter, Sysmon, Perfmon and IOstat
Examine popular FC and IP protocol analysis tools from LeCroy and Finisar as well as Wireshark
Implement both copper and fiber media connectivity with the appropriate signal and distance type
Solve problems relating to various copper and optical media
Use and understand various problem, solving strategies for storage network issues
Identify solutions for storage network environmental issues
